Privacy policy

Written in plain English so a busy administrator or a parent can read it in one sitting. It describes what we collect today and what we will not collect.

Last updated: October 18, 2026

The short version

  • We do not collect student names or student data on this site. Family links are sent by your district through the channel it already uses, and we never store parent names, emails or phone numbers to record consent.
  • We collect what you give us directly: a demo request, a newsletter email with your consent, and district account details for invited staff.
  • Roster uploads stay locked until your district has signed a data privacy agreement with us.
  • We do not sell data. We do not run advertising trackers on this site.
  • Questions or requests about your data go through our contact form.

Kinsent AI wrote this policy itself. It has not been reviewed by legal counsel. Where a signed data privacy agreement covers your district, that agreement governs.

Who this policy covers

This policy covers kinsentai.com and the Kinsent AI service. Three kinds of people use it, and we handle each group's information differently.

Families follow a personal link their district sends them and read cards, then choose Yes or Not yet. Visitors read public pages and can request a demo. District staff sign in to invited accounts and run the portal for their district.

What we do and do not keep about families

Your district sends you your family link. It decides who receives one and through which channel. We never see, collect or store parent names, parent email addresses or parent phone numbers for consent.

When you open your link and make a choice, we record the choice itself and a timestamp for it. The choice is attached to the student record your district created, which uses identifiers your district controls. We do not ask for the student's name.

Your district can change your link settings, and you can change your choice at any time. Your most recent choice is the one that counts and the one shown to teachers.

  • We keep: your choices and the time you made them, the version of the card you read, and the policy version your district had published.
  • We do not keep: your name, your email address, your phone number, or any history of which device you used.

If your district shares a link with you in error, tell your school. Districts control their own family links and can end them.

Student data

We never collect student names or student data on this site. Public pages, family guides and the state rules map hold no student information of any kind.

Roster uploads stay locked until your district has signed a data privacy agreement with us. No roster can be loaded before that agreement exists. Once a district signs and loads a roster, that data is governed by the signed agreement, the district's own settings, and the commitments on our data protection page.

Before any student data is collected, we commit to storing it in the United States only, to encryption in transit and at rest, and to two-step login for Kinsent staff. See our data protection page for the full list of commitments.

What we collect from visitors

If you request a demo, we store what the form asks for: your name, job title, district or school name, state, work email, optional phone number, enrollment and school counts, the topic you picked and any message you wrote. We use this to set up your demo and to follow up with you about it.

If you join the newsletter, we keep your email address for the newsletter only, because you asked for it. You can ask us to remove it at any time.

Demo requests are visible only to Kinsent staff. We do not share them, sell them or use them for anything except replying to you about Kinsent AI.

District staff accounts

District accounts are created by invitation. Your district or Kinsent AI invites you with a specific email address, and you sign up with that address.

For these accounts we keep your name, work email, district and role (district admin or teacher), and the basic account activity needed to run the portal: the tools your district approves, the class use forms teachers complete, and the records of family choices your district can export.

Keep your sign in details private. Tell your district admin, or tell us, when a staff member leaves so access can be ended.

Cookies and sign in

We use the small amount of browser storage needed to keep you signed in and to keep the site working. We do not run advertising cookies and we do not track you across other websites.

Family links carry a private code in the link itself so your district's link opens the right record. That code works without an account, and we do not attach a profile of you to it.

Who we share things with

We do not sell data and we do not share demo requests or newsletter emails for anyone else's marketing.

Service providers we use to run the site (such as hosting and email delivery) process data only on our instructions to keep the service working.

District records belong to the district. We share family choice records and reports only with that district, and with state or legal requests where the law requires it. Districts export their own records for boards, parents or the state.

How we protect data

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and Kinsent staff use two-step login. Access inside Kinsent is limited to the people who need it to run the service and to support your district.

Access to district data is limited by role. A teacher sees the students approved for their tools, not other classes. A district admin sees their own district. Platform staff see only what support requires.

No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, and we cannot promise absolute security. If something goes wrong, we will tell the affected district and follow the notice duties in the signed agreement.

How long we keep things

Demo requests: while we work with you, then removed unless you ask us to keep the conversation going.

Newsletter emails: until you ask us to remove them.

District records, including family choices: for as long as the district's signed agreement says, and returned or removed at the end of it, except where the law requires the district to keep records longer.

Revoked family links and the choices attached to them: removed 3 years after the link is revoked, unless the district's agreement or the law requires longer.

Activity logs, the dated record of who did what in a district portal: kept for 3 years, then removed.

Family choice records matter: a choice and its timestamp may be part of the record your district needs for a board, a parent or the state. Districts can export them at any time.

Your choices and rights

Families: change your choice whenever you want through your link. Your district runs the link, so if you lose it or your situation changes, contact your school.

Visitors: ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, through our contact form.

Newsletter readers: ask us to remove your email at any time.

If you are a district and a family asks you about their data, you can answer from your own exports. We will help where the signed agreement says we should.

Children

This service is for adults making decisions about classroom tools. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information directly from children.

Students do not use Kinsent AI to make consent choices. Their parent or guardian does.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service and the law change. When we do, we change the Last updated date at the top of this page, and we aim to tell signed districts in advance of material changes.

Where a signed agreement with your district covers privacy and security, that agreement governs if it says something different from this page.
