Florida's new AI rule, in plain English
Before your student uses an AI tool at school, your school will have to ask you first, under Florida's rule with local policies due by July 1, 2027.

In September 2026, Florida's State Board of Education approved a rule about AI in public schools. Here is what it means for your family.
Your school will have to tell you. When your district approves an AI tool for students, it must tell you the tool's name, which classes use it, and how students will use it.
You get to decide. If your student will use the tool directly, you will have to opt in first. Nothing happens until you say yes.
There is always another option. If you say no, your student gets a comparable assignment without AI.
Schools have a deadline. Districts have until July 1, 2027 to put their policies in place.
This is general information, not legal advice. Your school district is the best source for how it applies to your student.
